Exercise and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Strengthening and Endurance Exercises for COPD
Muscle weakness is the main reason for increasing disability in persons with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Weak arms and legs make day to day activities like combing hair and carrying groceries more difficult.
Strengthening will give you confidence which will improve your daily quality of life by allowing you to be more efficient and less likely to curtail your activities due to your disease.
Your improved coordination, endurance,  increased motor skills and range of motion will reduce the energy cost involved in your daily activities.
Remember consistent and quality effort for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease exercise will increase your wellbeing.

Cycling Classes Are One of The Best Exercises For Toning Your Legs
Practically every form of cardiovascular exercise, whether it be cycling, jogging, using an elliptical trainer or cross-country skier, works out both your calves and your thighs. However, cycling has two distinct advantages over other forms of cardiovascular exercise. The first advantage is that the bikes in cycling classes have adjustable pedal resistance; by increasing the resistance on your bike, you can increase the amount of force needed to pedal the bike, which will result in building up both your calves and your thigh muscles.
The second advantage of cycling is that proper cycling form (which your instructor can help you with) works out your core muscles. Maintaining proper form over a 30 or 45 minute workout is a great workout for your core muscles, which include your abs, oblique's and your lower back. Having strong core muscles not only improves the way you look, but also significantly reduces the chance that you will injure your back from carrying heavy loads or making sudden movements in the course of your daily life!
A Healthy Menu For
Day Two
Have two poached eggs on a whole-wheat English muffin with two slices of turkey bacon and a whole orange for breakfast. For lunch, try a sandwich made with two slices of whole grain bread, 2 oz. of all-natural ham, a slice of Swiss cheese, sliced tomatoes and shredded lettuce. Have a plum for dessert. Dinner could be a cup of minestrone soup with a large salad made with 3 cups of romaine lettuce, 1/2 cup chickpeas, 1/4 cup of feta cheese and 1 tsp. of olive oil mixed with 2 tsp. of red wine vinegar. At snack times, have a low-fat string cheese with the other half of the kiwi and a glass of skim milk with one sheet of graham crackers.
