Leg Muscle Weakness Exercise
Knee Marching

Purpose of this exercise

  • This exercise will strengthen your ankles and hips.
  • It will also improve your dynamic or "moving" balance.

How to do it:

Step 1

  • Stand with arms at sides, feet shoulder width apart.

Step 2

  • Raise one knee up as high as comfortable.
  • Lower, then raise the other knee.
  • Repeat 20 times.

Breathing:

  • Breathe normally, inhale through the nose and exhale out the mouth.

Tips:

  • Use a chair to hold on to while standing. Hold on with your finger, one hand or two hands.

  • Don't close your eyes or hold your breath.
  • Raise your arms out to the sides if you need more balance.

Take it up a notch:

  • Lift chest and look straight ahead to make standing more challenging.
  • Try adding a one pound ankle weight to one ankle.
You did it! Practice makes..... you guessed it...permanent!. Don't practice sitting in a chair unless you really want to be good at sitting in a chair. Good luck!

Do It Yourself Exercise Programs
The first thing to know is that any good functional exercise program includes a mixture of just 7 key movements. They are
1. Squat
 2. Lunge
 3. Bend
 4. Twist
 5. Push
 6. Pull
 7. Gait (walk/run)

Pull – Great for your mid-upper back, the rear of your shoulders, and your biceps

Resistance – Cables, dumbells, weighted objects from around the house, exercise band
If you’re in the gym you can use cables, a ‘lat pulldown’ (which looks like a machine but is really a cable system), or a ‘seated row’ (again, a cable system, not a machine). These make things pretty simple as all you have to do is sit, maintain good posture, and pull an amount that allows you to keep that posture. Out of the gym your best choice isan exercise band. Fasten it in the middle to something at about stomach to chest level. This leaves both ends free for you to grip. If it’s at chest height you can remain fully upright (easier version). Keep your shoulders relaxed and your posture tall. Leading with your elbows, pull the band towards your body. Continue until your elbows slide past your sides and your shoulder-blades squeeze together. If you’ve fastened the band lower, simply squat down and hold that position whilst performing the above-described pull. This is definitely the harder version but it’s a better workout!

A Healthy Menu For
Monday
Understanding standard serving sizes can help control calorie intake, says WIN, who suggests measuring cups and spoons as helpful tools for controlling calories. Dieters can start Monday with a nutrient-rich breakfast of 2 cups whole grain cereal with 1 cup skim milk and 1 1/4 cups whole strawberries. For lunch they may load up on fiber with 2 tbsp. hummus, 8 Triscuit crackers, 10 baby carrots and 1 container of light yogurt. A small apple with 1 tbsp. of peanut butter controls mid-afternoon hunger. A 3 oz. turkey burger on a whole wheat bun with 1 cup California-style vegetables is a simple, nutritious dinner. A toasted whole-wheat English muffin with 1 tsp. all-fruit jam makes a light evening snack.

Food To Chew On:
Thursday – The Cutting Edge
Acts 10:42-43 (NKJV)
And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead.  To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins.”

Thought For The Day:
“From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead” –Apostles’ Creed

Today is Thick Thursday, the only thing that is thick is our fruits, veggies and healthy meats that is pilled-up on our plate for lunch….  :)
Have a Wonderful Thursday with HHWN !!

Leg Muscle Weakness Exercise

By selecting exercises that work on these areas we can improve our performance in many of the daily activities which require reaching forward, to the side or rotating around to the back.

When we raise our hip up in the air, believe it or not we are momentarily standing on one leg. This is definitely a balance exercise. The slower you go, the harder this exercise becomes.

Make sure you hold onto a chair or someone’s hand when performing this exercise if you feel at all uncomfortable with marching. For a great workout, try marching for 2 minutes. Stop if you become winded, then continue until 2 minutes has passed.

Try this knee marching exercise for increased hip and ankle strength.

1. Squat
 2. Lunge
 3. Bend
 4. Twist
 5. Push
 6. Pull
 7. Gait (walk/run)

 Push

Push – Great for your chest (forget the implants ladies!), tuck-shop arms, and shoulders

Resistance – Any weighted object such as a dumbbell in each hand. Cables can also be used. Be wary of putting weight on your back during a push-up unless you are certain you have perfect posture and core strength.
Now I know you’re already up on what a push-up is, but did you know that most people perform their push-ups incorrectly? Not only can this ruin your posture, but it doesn’t do your muscle tone any favors. It’s important that you maintain a straight spine with your head held level. The back of your head, your mid-back, and your tailbone should all be at one height. Keep your belly muscles drawn in to get a bonus core workout. Only go as far down as you can whilst maintaining this form. You can also perform push movements on your back, lying on eitheran exercise ball or a bench. Either way, squeeze your butt and keep your abs tight. Hold weights at shoulder level and push up in a triangle shape. Bring them down the same way they went up. Do this with a controlled tempo, and breathe out as you push.

A Healthy Menu For
Thursday
For breakfast on Thursday, go back to either whole grain or bran cold cereal with one-half cup of skim milk and a half a banana. Try vegetarian chili for lunch. Finish your day with three ounces of baked chicken breast with the skin removed, a half cup of wild or brown rice, a half cup of cooked carrots and peas.

Food To Chew On:
Wednesday – The Lion and The Bear
Amos 5:19 (NKJV)
It will be as though a man fled from a lion, And a bear met him!
Or as though he went into the house, Leaned his hand on the wall,
And a serpent bit him.

Thought For The Day:
When nothing is going right, ask the Lord what’s wrong, and he will speak to your heart in as small still voice, just listen for it….~Amen~

Today is “Witness Wednesday”  we all can be that witness for the Lord and also for our new way of living. We are getting stronger and eating the right foods and seeing some wonderful results. So that is a witness all by itself.
So Keep On Being That Witness with HHWN!!! J

Leg Muscle Weakness Exercise
Leg muscle weakness is a critical factor in maintaining balance in the elderly . By performing exercises that are designed to improve strength in the ankles and hips, like knee marching, you can increase your dynamic balance and thereby reduce the risk of falling.
Below I have made a great balance video that is fun and easy to do. All you need is a chair, comfortable loose fitting clothing,  and a pair of smooth bottom shoes to wear so you won't catch your feet. Read on then give it a try.

Strong hips, knees and ankles are required to archive a better state of balance. Lifting your legs up and down works on the ankles, quadriceps muscles and hips. An overall great leg strengthener and balance workout.

1. Squat
 2. Lunge
 3. Bend
 4. Twist
 5. Push
 6. Pull
 7. Gait (walk/run)

Twist – Great for your core and lower back, especially your oblique (side tummy) muscles
Resistance – an exercise ball or gym cables are ideal, as is an exercise band, which is basically a piece of rubber tubing about 3 feet long.
Remember that old dance ‘the twist’? The twist pattern as part of your workout is kinda similar. It’s all about getting movement through your spine. This in turn helps to activate your belly muscles and is great for toning your entire midriff. Loosely clasp your hands in front of you at chest height, or hold a weighted object at chest height. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart. With your navel drawn in, start to twist your torso. Your elbows should move side to side as you do this, but the movement is driven from the core. You can pivot on each foot as you move. Progress the movement by holding the weight further away from your body.

A Healthy Menu for
Wednesday
For breakfast select one lowfat blueberry waffle, 2 tbsp. sugar-free syrup, ½ cup fresh raspberries and 1 cup nonfat milk. Enjoy coffee or tea sweetened with a sugar substitute, too. Your lunch meal includes 2 scrambled eggs, 1 oz. low fat cheese, 1 slice of toasted whole grain bread and 1 tsp. soft margarine and ½ cup fresh pineapple. For dinner, choose 3 oz. broiled salmon, ½ quinoa, ½ cup broccoli and cauliflower mix. Have 4 oz. low fat yogurt with ½ cup sliced strawberries for dessert.

Temptation Tuesday With HHWN

Food To Chew On:
Tuesday – When Our Heart Are Broken
Ezekiel 11:19-20 (NKJV)
Then I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them,[a] and take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh, that they may walk in My statutes and keep My judgments and do them; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God.
Thought For The Day:
Disappointment is missing what we set as our appointment. It really makes way for a greater appointment- with the Lord….~Amen~

Today is “Temptation Tuesday.” Wow we are surrounded by temping foods that are not good for us… we must stick with the New way of living by eating right and being the best steward of our bodies as we can… I will tell you again everyone needs a “Blow Day” meaning just for one day you eat whatever you want to eat, by doing that it tackles all of those cravings we all have and then the next day we go back to our healthy eating… the key is as long as you don’t eat like that every day. If you do then all of your hard work is going to waste and we don’t want that ….
So Keep Up The Great Work You Can Do It…..with HHWN!!! J

1. Squat
 2. Lunge
 3. Bend
 4. Twist
 5. Push
 6. Pull
 7. Gait (walk/run)

Bend – Great for your back (lower and upper), shoulders, butt, hamstrings, abs*
Resistance: as above, or you can hold a barbell or an exercise ball in front of you
A forward bending movement. Start with tall posture and your feet around hip width apart. Bend your knees about 15 degrees, and then stick your butt out. Keeping your back straight, bend your torso forward until it reaches around 45 degrees. If you hold weights in front of you, they should stay very close to your thighs. Once your weights or fists reach knee level, drop your butt down an extra 2-3 inches (a mini squat). Stand back up in one smooth movement, driving your hips forward and your shoulders back.

A Healthy Menu For
Tuesday
For breakfast, eat 1 cup raisin bran cereal with 1 cup nonfat milk, 1 cup blackberries. Enjoy this with coffee or tea with a sugar substitute. Lunch consists of a grilled tomato and cheese sandwich on whole grain bread, 2 celery stalks served with 2 tbsp. chunky salsa for dipping. Add 1 cup red seedless grapes for dessert.
