Tips for Sufferers of Seasonal Allergies
Put down the chocolate shake and snack on some nuts
Try adding more anti-inflammatory foods, such as ground flaxseeds. Walnuts along with fish oil supplements are tremendous sources of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an omega-3 fatty acid which can stomp out inflammation in your nasal passages. Try to cut back on eating things like red meat, fried or processed foods, chocolate and a lot of dairy products that cause mucus. You may also want to try a number of homeopathic remedies that are available at most health food stores.
Don’t bring your pollen with you
One way to prevent bringing pollen into your home is to change your clothes almost immediately upon entering the house. Try keeping shoes at the door or in the garage. We may not see it, but pollen is easily trapped in clothing and in your hair. So, if possible try to change clothes and wash up more often. You should also try avoiding hanging laundry outdoors; this will prevent it from collecting airborne pollen.

Balance Exercise For Seniors And The Elderly
Balance exercise for seniors and the elderly, like the heel to toe below, can help in maintaining your center of gravity over your ankles.
Below I have made a great balance video that is fun and easy to do. All you need is comfortable loose fitting clothing, and a pair of smooth bottom shoes to wear so you won't catch your feet. Read on then give it a try.
Being able to stand or walk with a narrow base of support is vital in keeping your balance, especially when moving. By narrowing your base of support, we will be challenging your ability to keep your center of gravity over your base of support, which is usually your ankles.
Start by holding on to a counter, a human being ( they call them family members) or even use a cane. This will give you the confidence to practice and focus your attention on the things that matter.
This is an excellent balance exercise to perform every day because it is so easy to do and can be incorporated into your regular activities. Start in the kitchen holding on to a counter.
Simply place one foot in front of the other, heel to toe fashion until you run out of counter. Repeat up to 10 times. And off you go! After you practice the balance exercise for a while, try looking ahead at eye level, without looking down at your feet. I know... it is so tempting to look at your shoes as they travel across the floor.
So let's get started on our balance exercise! Make sure you get out all those jokes about failing the police sobriety test first! I've heard them all. You will also notice I placed a strip of tape down on the floor. This is used as a visual cue. It helps to know where your feet should go.
If you can't walk on the line directly, simply walk with your feet as close as possible without actually stepping on the line.
Good luck!
Tips for Sufferers of Seasonal Allergies
Know what is causing your symptoms
The first thing you should do when preparing for allergy season is to know your symptoms and what causes them. Are you allergic to dust, mold, pollen, your pets, or something else? It may take a considerable amount of time research what causes your allergies but it will provide you a lifetime of happiness and relief. Try using a personal diary to track what may cause your symptoms or as mentioned above, schedule an appointment with an immunologist.
 H2O is better…
Drinking 8 glasses of water per day use to be the recommended dose, but really to stay hydrated you should drink half of your body weight in ounces of water. This may seem like a lot but is crucial in staying symptom free during the allergy season. Water will thin mucous secretions and hydrate your mucous membrane tissues.
A Healthy Menu For
Friday
Have a cup of cooked oatmeal topped with 1/2 cup of skim milk, 2 tbsp. of raisins and 1 tsp. of brown sugar. For lunch, stir 1/4 cup of salsa into 1 cup of nonfat, plain Greek yogurt. Use as a dip for one serving of baked tortilla chips, 1 cup carrot sticks and a sliced red pepper. At dinner, make a mock pizza with a whole-wheat English muffin, 1/4 cup of marinara sauce and 1 1/2 oz. of part-skim mozzarella cheese. Toss a large green salad on the side with low-calorie dressing. Snacks for this day are 3 cups of air-popped popcorn topped with 1 tbsp. of shredded Parmesan cheese and a glass of red wine or a whole apple.

Spring has sprung and here are some helpful tips:
Tips for Sufferers of Seasonal Allergies
One of the most commonly overlooked health conditions is one that 40 million fellow Americans share, allergies. Many of us that live in seasonal areas love the changing weather. We welcome spring by opening all our windows to enjoy the ‘fresh air’. Unfortunately, we may also be letting in allergens. Allergens cause a person’s body to overreact, causing allergies.
Allergy symptoms include sneezing, itchy nose, scratchy throat and watery eyes. Some people’s allergies get so bad they have to skip work, school or other community responsibilities. 35 million Americans suffer with allergies and allergic disease is ranked the 6th leading cause of chronic disease in the United States.
There are many methods available for treating allergies. The professional route is to get a referral from your primary care doctor to see a board-certified allergist-immunologist. This allergy specialist will test you to identify exactly what your allergic to and then prescribe either medication or immunotherapy (series of shots) to manage, or in some cases eliminate, the effects of your allergy.
Many other people who suffer from allergies opt for over-the-counter medications to treat their symptoms in search of a quick-fix, but some of these medications can make you feel drowsy and run down. Whenever taking any medication you should always speak to your pharmacist or other healthcare provider prior, even if it is only an over-the-counter. Sometimes it is best to avoid these medications and try changing diet and/or lifestyle to help balance the immune system to help treat the symptoms.
Urgent or retail clinics staffed by clinicians can often bridge the convenience gap between wanting treatment for your symptoms immediately and waiting a long time to get an appointment with an allergy specialist. Retail and urgent care clinics often cater specifically to things like allergies an can give you professional care versus wandering the allergy isle at your local super store. In many cases, these clinics will often loop in your primary care provider of any treatment they give you so that when you do finally get that referral to see the immunologist everyone involved with your care is on the same page.

Exercises For Improving Balance In Seniors And The Elderly
Exercises for improving balance are vital in helping seniors and the elderly reduce the risk of falling. For generalized balance decline, I recommend performing balance exercises on a daily basis.
All you need is comfortable loose fitting clothing, and a pair of smooth bottom shoes to wear so you won't catch your feet. Read on then give it a try.
Working on our static or "standing" balance with exercises like body circles below will greatly assist in increasing our stability.
An important component of exercises for improving balance is your ability to integrate your sensory information as you go about your day. This information comes from your eyes, vestibular apparatus in your ears, and your somatosensory system which allows you to know where your body is in space.
How do you handle standing on hard cement, soft grass, gravel surfaces or carpet. Try standing on different surfaces as you perform the exercise below called body circles.
If you are unsure of your balance when closing your eyes while standing, hold on to your good buddy the chair to start. This is always a great option when performing balancing exercises.
You can do it. This is one of my favorite exercises to strengthen the ankles, which are our first line of defense when it comes to losing your balance. Your ankles keep your torso centered over your base of support.
When performing exercises for improving balance, like the one below, try to keep your knees and hips stiff and straight. This will enhance the work your ankles need to do and will make the exercise that much better.

Just Say No to these 5 Diet Strategies

5. Skimping on Sleep
This one may be the hardest one. Making time to exercise can mean less time for sleep, but it’s important to get that shut-eye when you’re trying to lose weight. You need extra energy to keep up with your exercise routine, and skimping on sleep can actually affect your body’s ability to control appetite. Too little sleep increases an appetite-stimulating hormone, so when you don’t get enough ZZZZs, it may be easier to be tempted and overindulge.

A Healthy Menu For
Wednesday
Repeat the cereal breakfast, but have a sliced small banana in place of the berries. For lunch, stuff a whole-wheat pita with 1/4 cup of hummus, 1/4 cup of feta cheese, sliced cucumbers and sliced tomatoes. At dinner, stir fry 3 oz. of shrimp with 1 cup of snow peas and 1 cup of sliced carrots. Have over 1 cup of brown rice. For your snacks, have 1/2 cup of low-fat cottage cheese with 1/2 cup of drained, canned pineapple and later, have 20 almonds.

 4. Just Say No to these 5 Diet Strategies
When you work out on an empty stomach, you burn calories from muscle, not fat. It’s important to fuel your body before exercising, because you will avoid losing that oh-so important muscle, and you’ll have more energy to push yourself through your workout at a more intense rate. End result — you get a better workout and burn more fat calories. Just choose your pre-workout meal wisely.

Guide to Pre and Post-Workout Meal Planning
No matter what your form of exercise, Strength Training or Cardio Training & Conditioning, you always want to “Feed Your Need”! Without the proper fuel, all your fitness efforts (hours in the gym) can become pointless when you don’t feed your tool (the body) properly to match your performance on a daily basis!

 AM Workout Meal Plan
 • Pre-workout meal if you can eat early: 1protien, 1 complex carb, 1 simple carb, 16oz water
 • If you can’t eat early: choose 1 c sports drink, or 8-16oz of caffeinated tea or coffee. Sip water on your way to the gym and continue to drink through your workout.
• For optimal recovery: have 1-2 c of sports drink or high-carb recovery drink with 20-30gr of protein powder added immediately after your workout.
 • Post-workout meal: 1 or 2 complex carbs, 1 protein, 1 simple carb, 16oz water
 • After an intense workout session = 3:1 ration of carbs to protein to replace depleted glycogen stores and to provide amino acids for muscle repair

Midday Workout Meal Plan
 • Pre-workout snack is essential 1-2 hours before training: 1 simple carb and 1 protein (Supplement Shake)
 • For Optimal Recovery: have 1-2c of sports drink or high carb recovery drink with 206-30gr of protein powder added immediately after workout
 • Post workout meal: 1protein, 1 complex carb, protein drink, 16 oz water
 • To gain mass: pre-workout snack = carb grams = to 1/2 your body weight
 • After an intense workout session: 3:1 ratio of carbs to protein to replace depleted glycogen stores and to provide amino acids for muscle repair.

A Healthy Menu For
Tuesday
Have two poached eggs on a whole-wheat English muffin with two slices of turkey bacon and a whole orange for breakfast. For lunch, try a sandwich made with two slices of whole grain bread, 2 oz. of all-natural ham, a slice of Swiss cheese, sliced tomatoes and shredded lettuce. Have a plum for dessert. Dinner could be a cup of minestrone soup with a large salad made with 3 cups of romaine lettuce, 1/2 cup chickpeas, 1/4 cup of feta cheese and 1 tsp. of olive oil mixed with 2 tsp. of red wine vinegar. At snack times, have a low-fat string cheese with the other half of the kiwi and a glass of skim milk with one sheet of graham crackers.

Food To Chew On:
Saturday – Thank You Jesus
Lamentations 3:21-24 (KJV)
This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

Thought For The Day:
Dear Father, Thank You for your mercies.... Please let me be forever Thankful not just for this morning for every day of my life, I will praise Your Name....~Amen~
Good Morning of the Beautiful Saturday… it is Simple to follow the
ways of eating and exercising… it is really up to you. If you really want it bad enough you will go for it…. It is Simply Easy!! J If you haven’t been eating right and exercising then you can always start today… it is never too late…. Don’t forget to be good to yourself !! Have a Happy and Healthy Weekend J

Leg Muscle Weakness Exercise
Leg muscle weakness is a critical factor in maintaining balance in the elderly . By performing exercises that are designed to improve strength in the ankles and hips, like knee marching, you can increase your dynamic balance and thereby reduce the risk of falling.
All you need is a chair, comfortable loose fitting clothing, and a pair of smooth bottom shoes to wear so you won't catch your feet. Read on then give it a try.
Strong hips, knees and ankles are required to archive a better state of balance. Lifting your legs up and down works on the ankles, quadriceps muscles and hips. An overall great leg strengthener and balance workout.
By selecting exercises that work on these areas we can improve our performance in many of the daily activities which require reaching forward, to the side or rotating around to the back.
When we raise our hip up in the air, believe it or not we are momentarily standing on one leg. This is definitely a balance exercise. The slower you go, the harder this exercise becomes.
Make sure you hold onto a chair or someone’s hand when performing this exercise if you feel at all uncomfortable with marching. For a great workout, try marching for 2 minutes. Stop if you become winded, then continue until 2 minutes has passed.
Try this knee marching exercise for increased hip and ankle strength.

Just Say No to these 5 Diet Strategies

3. All Cardio, All the Time
If you live on the treadmill, elliptical, or in a spin class, but never pick up a weight, you’re missing out on an important piece of the fitness puzzle. Not only does weight training build and tone muscles, it also strengthens the joints and increases metabolic rate. And thanks to a revved up metabolism, you’ll keep burning calories even after you’ve slipped off your sneakers.

Just Say No to these 5 Diet Strategies
It’s not always easy to decide which diet tips to follow. And there are a lot of tips out there, but here are five common weight loss strategies that you should really avoid.
Missing Meals
If you are skipping meals because you think it is a good way to reduce calories, think again. Cutting calories is definitely key to weight loss, but missing out on meals can mess with your metabolism. When you wait too long to eat, your body reacts by slowing down your metabolism and halt weight loss. If your schedule is the issue and you’re simply too busy to sit down and eat a full meal, store small snacks in your purse, desk or car to eat throughout the day so that you can keep your metabolism moving.
